Packing Checklist for a Move to a Retirement Community

Are you getting ready to move into a retirement community and want to make sure you have everything you need once you get there? Having completed hundreds of moves for our clients over the years, use the checklist below to help get organized.


Personal Items:

  • Clothes/Shoes/Boots/Coats/Hats/Gloves

  • Toiletries

  • Medications

  • Little sewing kit

  • Jewelry

  • Photo Albums

  • Suitcase/travel bag

  • Personal paperwork i.e. passport, wills, income tax paperwork, etc.

Furniture & Decor:

  • Bed/Dresser/Night Stand/Lamp

  • Selection of living room furniture

  • Selection of lamps

  • Kitchenette table and chairs

  • Linens & towels

  • Bathroom accessories i.e. cup, toothbrush holder etc.

  • Desk and desk items

  • Bookshelf/display unit

  • Outdoor patio set

  • Nick nacks, decor items, plants, books, magazines, vases

  • Holiday decor

  • Step stool (if appropriate)

  • Art

Kitchen Items/Electronics/Appliances:

  • Selection of kitchen items: utensils, can opener, 4 plates, glasses, mugs, teapot, teacups, a couple of tupperware containers

  • Toaster, Coffee Maker, Kettle (and accessories)

  • Microwave (if required)

  • TV (cable box) and stand

  • Radio/music

  • Computer, printer, modem

Cleaning/Maintenance:

  • Laundry detergent/fabric softener (if required)

  • Laundry bag

  • Iron and ironing board (if required)

  • Selection of light cleaning supplies i.e. dishcloths, hand towels, dish soap, duster, broom/dustpan, waste bin bags

  • Tools: wrench, screwdriver, measuring tape (little kit)

Food & Drink:

  • Liquor/wine

  • Snack food

  • Tea, coffee, filters
