Do I have to live in Vaughan to act as the executor of an estate there?

No, you don't have to live in Vaughan or even in Ontario to serve as an estate trustee. Many executors we help live in another city or province and manage the estate remotely, with our single point of contact and on-the-ground team in York Region.

How long does it take to settle an estate in Vaughan?

Estate Administration Tax in Ontario is currently charged at $0 on the first $50,000 of estate value, and $15 per $1,000 (or part thereof) on the value above $50,000. For a $1 million estate, that’s roughly $14,250 owed before any distribution to beneficiaries.
